Rejuvenate Skin Clinic Review

Being a mum of two, especially when the youngest is only 8 months old, means that there isn’t too much me-time going on.  When I was invited by the Rejuvenate Skin Clinic in Manchester to pop along and have a try of a couple of their treatments I jumped at the chance.  I arranged for my mum to have G whilst O was at school and I headed to the Northern Quarter for a few hours being pampered.

I had been in contact with Leena (the clinic manager) prior to the day to discuss what treatments I would be interested in trying.  There is a varied selection of treatments available including slimming wraps, semi-permanent make up and chemical peels.  I already had an idea of what I wanted.  I have been working hard in January to lose the last bit of the baby weight and to tone up (Jillian Michaels voice is echoing in my head) and I was intrigued to see if an electrosimulation session would help to tone up my mum tum.

I had heard of these treatments before and had always wondered how effective they would be but had never actually booked one in.  I have to admit, I was also a little concerned what the experience would be and whether it would hurt or not but I thought this would be the perfect time to try it out.

The clinic is very easy to find (well it is, if the Google maps on your phone doesn’t take you in the complete opposite direction) and I was warmly welcomed by Leena on my arrival, who kindly offered me a cup of tea and showed me to the treatment room.  Leena was really helpful in talking me through the benefits of each treatment and definitely knew her stuff.  After a further chat about the treatments we finalised on a session of Radiofrequency, a treatment I wasn’t familiar with, followed by a session of Electrostimulation.

Radiofrequency skin tightening performed on the body to aid slimming and cellulite reduction works with the hand piece making contact and heating the surface of the skin of the abdomen, love handles, inner thighs or upper arms to renew collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. The localised heating causes collagen fibres to contract, causing old collagen to break down, but accelerating the production of new collagen. Tightening the fibrous layer of tissue at the dermis breaks down fatty deposits in the subcutaneous tissue, reduces cellulite and instantly tightens and contours flaccid skin.(Rejuvenate Websites description)

Sounds quite fancy, doesn’t it?  And not something that would be relaxing but I was keen to see if it would work.  Leena concentrated on my tummy and the treatment consisted of having a small heated wand rubbed over your skin to target your fatty areas.  One thing I really liked was that you didn’t need to strip off to have this treatment, I only had to pull up my jumper and lower by jeans a little as the treatment is very focused to one specific area.

Leena spent 20 minutes with the heat being moved over by left side before swapping for the same treatment on the right.  Any thoughts of it not being relaxing went out the window and I think I may have dozed off at one point.  Despite not needing to undress I was covered in a lovely thick towel which helped the cosy feel.  After the treatment my stomach was a little red but that was to be expected after having heat applied for 40 minutes.  There wasn’t any pain or discomfort at all.

After the radio frequency the second treatment I opted for wasmthe Electrostimulation.  This is probably a treatment that most people will have seen before and is a similar idea to using a Slendertone although the clinic machines are a lot more powerful.

Electrostimulation is a safe, effective non-invasive treatment where pulsed pads deliver high and low frequency electrical impulses with varying wave intensities. These impulses stimulate nerve endings in the muscle causing the contracting and relaxing of muscles to firm and shape the treated area. The treatment lasts up to 45 minutes.(Rejuvenate Websites description)

Essentially it’s a cheats way to tone up, and I don’t mind a bit of cheating!  The pulse pads were applied to my stomach and the strength of the electrical impulses was gradually increased.  It’s quite a strange sensation, a little bit like being tickled at the lower end of the scale and as it got stronger it reminded me a little bit of when G used to kick me from the inside (not in a painful way at all but that’s probably the best way that I can describe it).  Not quite as relaxing as the first treatment but I did enjoy it.  I was in the clinic almost two hours and it is a little haven of peace and calmness in the city centre, you could almost forget where you were.

So how effective was it?  Something I was dying to know myself.  I have been having a weekly weigh in and measuring session and in the week that I had the treatments an inch and a half from around my stomach which I was really pleased with and my jeans certainly feel like they are fitting better.
The two treatments I had are designed to be part of a series of treatments rather than a one off and I’m sure with weekly sessions the difference would be pretty amazing and it’s a lovely way to spend a couple of hours to yourself, when you can get it!

Disclosure: I was kindly invited to the Rejuvenate Skin Clinic for these treatments but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
