I’m A Post Holiday Slob

I take holiday planning quite seriously.  It’s booked months in advance, so we have something to look forward to.  A few new pieces are carefully chosen to update my summer wardrobe and the holiday haircut is booked in.  Insurance, check.  Currency, check.  Passports and all vital documents, all checked and safely secured in their travel wallet ready to go into the hand luggage.  The taxi-man (or Dad as he prefers to be called) is booked and we’re ready to go!

packed

Unfortunately all of my enthusiasm has been used up in the before holiday phase, so there’s not that much left for our homecoming!  I wish I could be one of those people who unpacks everything as soon as they are home, and gets themselves organised, but I’m not.  After unpacking the big case on Sunday I lost all momentum.  Bags and holiday bits and bobs are lying everywhere I turn, taunting me, “haha missus, holidays are over, get over it and get to work!”

I admit it, I’m a post holiday slob.  I shouldn’t be telling you this, I don’t want to shatter the illusion I am an organised and in control lady, but once the nice part is over I can’t really be bothered with the mopping up afterwards.  At the moment the current state of my house is this:

Flowers from before the hols still in the vase (although after taking this photo I had shamed myself enough to go and put them in the bin).  In my defence I had meant to thrown them away the day before we left but I completely forgot.

One case still half unpacked.  It was opened to retrieve the iPad chargers (let’s get our priorities right) and is now getting in the way in the dressing room.

O’s trunki has sat for 3 days untouched.  It has only been opened so that I could retrieve the camera and it is now closed back up again and cluttering up his nursery.

The washing from before the holiday, which still needs to be ironed and still needs to be put away, is taking over the conservatory.

The holiday toiletries are covering almost every surface in the bathroom and there is general crap everywhere you turn.  None of this helps with the post holiday blues that are starting to surface.  This time last week I was relaxed and looking at views like this:

And this week I’m trying to stop Year 10 boys passing sanitary towels around the classroom!  A bit of a comedown, I’m sure you’ll agree.

So now you know, one of my guilty secrets, my tendency to be a bit on the slobby side when it comes to tidying away after a break away. The cases will probably still be there until the weekend when the Big Mr will have had enough and will insist it’s time we properly unpack.  There’s only so long we can dodge the cases, I suppose!

haha, love this. I am a bit the opposite. Must get laundry and unpacking done as soon as I can – it drives me mad otherwise! x

I really wish I could be but my lazy side seems to surface, it thinks it’s still on holiday! x

I’m totally the same!!! I know that a big clear through would make everything feel better and banish those post holiday blues but I can’t help it!! It’s the same after Christmas too! X

Lol I love this, thanks for sharing! With me I think it depends how knackered I am when we get home.. I like to think I’ll be all organised and I will probably start off well with a few loads of washing on (mainly because we all need some clean underwear) and then it tails off and all the bits and bobs are left in the cases for weeks! You are not alone in the post holiday slob – I definitely get posy holiday blues!! xx #sharewithme

Looks like you had a lovely holiday, which is fab! I can’t even bare the thought of unpacking so hubby does it – bit like when we move house 😉

Good luck with the Year 10s!! #sharewithme

Ha ha this did make me chuckle, especially the bit about the yr10 boys. Glad you had a lovely holiday. #sharewithme xxx

You should have seen them today, wiping ink all over each other’s faces! I turned around to see one boy sat there with a completely blue face. Couldn’t decide whether to laugh or put my shouty teacher head on!

This made me smile. I’m afraid I’m one of those unpack as soon as I get home types but it’s just because I can’t bear the thought of doing it later on. Mentally I need to adjust to being back home and unpacking seems to do that for me (not that I like doing it!) Hope the guest few days back haven’t been too much of a shock 🙂

But you have a great excuse, you had to go straight back to work! I nodded all the way through this cos we returned from our holiday on Saturday…..the pre-holiday flowers are still in the vase, the ironing pile pre-dates our holiday and I cannot get even one ounce of enthusiasm mustered to tackle it!

I feel so much better about unpacked bags now I know someone else does it. haha

I’m a post holiday slob too! Our cases sat for over a week before we unpacked them, I couldn’t be bothered to do anything when we got back and I think it took me about 2 weeks to get my act together, the horrible weather here didn’t help matters either, great post x #sharewithme

Oh my goodness how refreshing to hear someone admit this. I hate unpacking after a holiday and all the washing!!! thanks for sharing #sharewithme

Unpacking from a trip is not as much fun as packing. All the laundry and putting everything back is overwhelming. I get my suitcase unpacked pretty quickly, but the kids’ sit until they need the clothes again! #sharewithme

Hope you had a wonderful holiday. Unpacking after a holiday is so hard. It takes lots of effort, but with no real gain. I hate unpacking too.

hahah I love this post. It’s awesome! So glad you were honest too I bet so many people are like this! And do the same thing as you and take their time getting back into the swing of things. I would love to say me too but we have a little bit of ocd going on in this house from both myself and Mr p so we are those weirdos that no matter what time we get in. Kids get sorted usually to bed as it’s always in the middle of the night or early morning, and we both hit to our suitcase getting everything put away. We always make sure to wash all our clothes before coming home too if we can so there is no laundry to do when we arrive back just put away and lock those suitcase back in the loft. Unless like lanzarote there was no laundry those are the times I just want to crawl in bed and ignore that laundry. Great post. Thanks for linking up to Share WIth Me #sharewithme

The worst part of it Jenny, is that my mother in law does all the washing and ironing for me before we leave the villa and I still can’t be bothered to tidy it away. Shame on me! Day off tomorrow so I’m going to get myself organised! xx

I’m the opposite JoJo – I can’t relax properly until it’s all put away! The ironing normally takes weeks of course, but as long as it’s out of sight in the airing cupboard I can just about cope! I need to take a chill pill though – I applaud your slobbiness!! 🙂 xx #sharewithme

    • June 4, 2014 / 8:17 pm

Haha, my husband doesn’t. Drives him crazy! I thought you might be a neat freak, Em! My slobbiness has improved with age, I used to be a lot worse xx

  16. June 4, 2014 / 9:09 pm

ahhh I can totally relate-especially when it’s not sunny here. Did you have a good time? I’m glad you’re back 🙂

  17. June 5, 2014 / 8:25 am

Oh this post made me chuckle. I’ll admit I’m a post-holiday slob too! Haha! Only for a few days though, then it starts to grat on me, I develop a nervous tick then I KNOW I need to do it there and then! lol Whirlwind of organisation! Great post! x #MMWBH

I don’t blame you for being a post holiday slob! I am too. I loathe unpacking. And all the washing! Yuk!

Aw I get depressed by big piles of holiday crap lying around – and I’m also a bit of a deferred gratification girl so I would rather do everything in my power to put it all away immediately – even if it takes til midnight! I go away to my parents with the boys for a weekend on a regular basis and we take so much stuff with us that its like we’re returning from a month away every time! I guess I have to own that I am a bit OCD about clearing it all ASAP!! #Sharewithme

  20. June 7, 2014 / 6:37 pm

This made me smile. You are definitely not the only one! I’m a bit of a slob too. Not sure when my maternity bag will finally get unpacked 😉
