A Day Off From Being Mum

Being a mum is a full time job, you’re on call 24/7. We know that, it’s what we signed up for but every once in a while it is nice to take a day off from all things mumsy and go and have a giggle with your mates.

Yesterday was one of those days and seven of us headed into Manchester for an afternoon of cocktails and Prosecco with a bit of food thrown in to soak up the booze.

A few too many of these were drunk.

Balloon hats may have been worn (by the birthday girl celebrating her 40th!)

And there may have been a bit of silliness with a very inappropriate pink balloon!

Of course, the kids and families crept into the conversation but we also talked about nail varnish and hair cuts and those other things that men generally just don’t get.

One of the lovely things about about getting a little bit older is that you have the benefit of drinking in the afternoon experience. Once it gets past a certain time (and you started on the Prosecco at 12:00pm) you know it’s not going to end well. The sensible ladies that we are decided to call it a day at 8pm and got our taxis home.

At the end of the day we are mums and nobody wants to be looking after a 3 year old with a hangover!

24/7, so true. Why wasn’t I told before I signed up for this. It’s amazing how I have been able to do it for the past 8 years. But a day off is necessary. I am going to start organising one, day off for me too. (Ordinary moments)

We definitely all need a day off now and again. Yours sounds just perfect and I hope you managed to avoid a hangover! x

I love being a Mum, but days like these really are the best! It’s so good for the soul to feel like a person and not just a servant to small people! I try and have a day like this once a month, and a few evenings too, it makes me feel human and a better mum in return 🙂

I *long* for a day off being a mum Jo!! Particularly lately as I have been feeling so tired and their behaviour has been so challenging. I actually start feeling a bit jeal of my single parent friend who gets the joy of handing her two off to her ex all day every Saturday! Bliss! 😉 Mm must try a porn star martini some time – they sound amazing – I dread to think how much they cost though!! Xx #ordinarymoments

Far too much Sam! My only consolation was that it will probably be another 6 months before I get another day out so I made the most of it! xx

It’s so nice to just let your hair down sometimes and just have a very good natter isn’t it? Hope it was a brilliant birthday!

Sounds absolutely lovely, and totally agree with you. Looking after children with a hangover is seriously unpleasant!

It looks like you had a fabulous day out, I’ve always thought it’s important to get away with the girls for an afternoon of light-hearted fun once in a while. Popping in from Magic Moments.

We all need a day off every so often! Sounds like a lovely afternoon, and very sensible going home at 8pm 🙂 Mind you, if I drink in the afternoon now I fall asleep at that point!

That sounds wonderful – as do the cocktails. I think we all know it’s important to take a bit of time to still be just us, but at the same time it’s really hard to organise so full credit to you 🙂

It sounds like a fab day pet! Yes, I would so rather do a lunchtime meal and drinks too. I’m fit for nothing by the time the evening comes, and like my pj’s too much! (Snore bore, I know!) Glad you had such a brill time xxx
