Luxuries You Never Knew You Had!

Before having Little O I took a lot for granted. I thought I knew how my life would change when I had children but nothing quite prepares you for the change to pretty much every aspect of your life. Normal, everyday things I used to do without thinking are now considered a luxury and can honestly make my day. Here’s my luxury list, if I can get at least one of these a day I’m happy. Straightening my hair without a 2 year old hanging off my leg Straightening my hair, full stop! Watching any grown up television before 7pm…

Should we teach our kids how to fail?

After an incident with one of my students yesterday it made me think about a training day we had at school a few years ago.  We were asked: If your child had failed their music exam, what would you say to them.  There were several options, a few “nice” options, of how the exam was unfair and there must have been a mistake etc.  The option I chose was “On the day you weren’t good enough!”  Okay, it was in my pre mummy days, but I think I’d still say the same.  I wouldn’t put it quite as bluntly…

{The Ordinary Moments #2} I Wanna Hold Your Hand!

After a Sunday afternoon trip to the pub we left hubby there and me and Baby O decided it was time we went home. We are lucky to live about 150 metres from the most lovely pub, so we were walking back. It was cold, it was dark and it was just me and O. He held my hand the entire way babbling as we went. I was so proud to be hand in hand with my beautiful boy, and I always treasure these moments as they pass so quickly. In a few years it won’t be “cool” to hold…

It Sucks Being A Poorly Mum

Being ill when you’re a mum is rubbish. Whereas in a pre mummy life, you’d have taken yourself off to bed with enough trashy magazines to last you for the duration or headed for a hot bath with something medicinal, these options no longer apply with a toddler to consider. Since Baby O started nursery 12 months ago he has managed to pass on 3 sickness viruses and I’m pretty sure he’s responsible for the flu-like symptoms I’m currently experiencing. He himself never gets ill. but I’m convinced he’s the carrier. I’ve had 10 years of not being sick (well,…

Newborn V’s Toddler Cuddles

When we found out we were expecting Baby O we were over the moon, I was definitely ready to be a mum.  Being the youngest of my group of friends and watching them one by one have babies, I was delighted it was going to be my turn.  I was ready for the baby stage, but I have to admit toddlers scared me. I would get exhausted just watching my friends run around after their little ones. I enjoyed almost every minute of being pregnant (the 3 stone weight gain will confirm that) and longed for those newborn snuggles.  Baby O…
