After not spending a great deal on maternity wear the first time round I’ve been happy to treat myself a little more during my second pregnancy. However, one item I was very reluctant to buy was a maternity coat. I didn’t need one when I was expecting O as I was mostly pregnant during the Summer/Autumn months and that year we had a particularly warm October and I was more worried with finding a fan for my classroom than I was finding a winter coat.
That’s not to say I haven’t seen some lovely ones, I have, but I couldn’t justify the cost for what would only be a few months wear. My brother bought me a lovely blazer for Christmas but it isn’t exactly built for warmth.
I first saw Mother & Nature on twitter and loved the idea of a maternity jacket that you could wear post pregnancy. The jacket has zips at the side which can be opened as your tummy expands and then zipped back up again once you return to your normal shape. It is designed as an outdoor jacket so is perfect for taking the dogs for a walk or doing the school run on a frosty morning, plus it’s 100% waterproof too.
The jacket has all the features you would expect from a good outdoor coat, there are velcro adjustable cuffs, drawstrings at the bottom to prevent draughts (which nicely go under the bump) and a hood which can be rolled away when not in use. Personally I found rolling the hood away made the jacket a bit too bulky around my neck so I preferred to have it out.
The morning we took these photos was bitterly cold and although my fingers were frozen the rest of me stayed lovely and cosy in the jacket and fleece. As well as jackets Mother & Nature also have a small selection of fleeces and walking trousers that can be worn both during and after pregnancy. The fleece was lovely and cosy and I loved the colours. As with the jacket, as cosy as it is now, it will still be a great fleece once the baby arrives as by zipping down the side panels it can be worn as non-maternity wear.
As lovely as some maternity wear is when you have two dogs and a four year old son who loves being outside, no matter what the weather, there is also a need for something that is warm and practical and Mother & Nature fills this gap perfectly. Whilst the jacket and fleece are great now, they will also be perfect for pram walks and park days when the baby has arrived and I am (hopefully) back to my normal size.
The lovely Sam at Mother and Nature is offering my readers 10% off all purchases using the code Launch10 so now is the perfect time to pop over and take a look.
Disclosure: I was sent the jacket and fleece for review purposes but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s so pretty and they look very comfy. If you decide to wear a baby carrier then it’d still be ideal later to cocoon baby up 🙂
