Doesn’t it make a difference when the sun comes out? We have spent most of this week in Wales, and the weather has been glorious. After hitting traffic half an hour into our journey there on Saturday we were very tempted to turn around and come home as we were going nowhere, but I’m so glad we didn’t. The original plan was to come home on Monday but the weather was so fantastic we stayed until Wednesday.
I did write a little post about it here if you want to see a few more pics.
Before we left on Saturday I treated myself to a couple of house magazines and the latest Slimming World magazine and then completely forgot to take them with me, but it did leave me with something to catch up on when we got home. There are some really tasty recipes in the Slimming World mag that I can’t wait to try out.
A late entry into this weeks read category is an email I received last night from one of my GCSE students saying thank you for the past two years. Teaching can be a very tough job (not at the min, obvs, love the summer hols) but it can be quite a thankless job so it meant a lot that a student took the time to send a little message just to say thanks.
I have a little confession to make, in the past I haven’t really watched The Great British Bake Off, I’ve tipped into it but never been hooked. Well, that’s all changed this year, it’s my new favourite. Did you see the bread wedding centrepieces? I would have loved one, I’m tempted to get married again just so I can have one.
I’ve also watched my mother in law put me to shame with her abilities with a hula hoop. I bought myself a weighted hula hoop to try to tone up my mum tum and this week I have been trying it out. Firstly, ouch, it bloomin hurts and I have a cracking bruise on my hip as proof and secondly, it’s really hard! I used to be quite good with a hoop as a kid but I can only manage to keep it up for about 20 seconds and that is only by looking like a crazy lady. My mother in law picked it up and effortlessly began hula hooping away looking graceful and not like an elephant trying to avoid being stung by a wasp!
We were caught a bit off guard with the tropical Welsh weather and had packed for it being a bit cooler and windier. I did get to wear one of new Autumn purchases with a few adaptations. Black tights and chunky cardigans were replaced with bare legs and a t-shirt underneath.
Poor O falling out of bed every night in the caravan. Can I just make clear he wasn’t hurt at all. At home he has a very big bed and is a wriggler so is used to being able to move around in his sleep. Caravan beds are a lot narrower and when he tried to turn over he fell out the other side. A quick cuddle from Mum and he was back in bed sleeping soundly.
Our roses were looking a little bit battered outside so I brought a few in for their own safety so I made a little arrangement in an old jam jar. They look so pretty.
I’ve been on slimming world a week now and after being in Wales for most of the time and eating out (and indulging in a few too many syns) I wasn’t expecting to lose much at all. I was delighted to find I’d lost 3 and a half pounds and a total of 1 and a half inches from my chest, waist and hips. It’s been really easy to stick to and although I haven’t been as strict as I perhaps should have it has made me think more about what I’m eating and make better food choices and that in itself has had a huge impact.
Today I’m very excited to be going off for a spa day with two of my oldest school friends. One lives in South Wales, and the other in Hertfordshire so it’s not often we all get together. I can’t wait for a gossip whilst lounging around in fluffy robes and then what sounds like the most amazing 2 hour treatment. Have a great week. xx
