Don’t you just love it when the sun decides to put his hat on when it’s your week off work? The past week has been glorious and most of it has been spent outside making the most of it. I love the Easter bank holiday, and we had such a lovely one spending lots of time with friends and family.

My favourite blog post of the week game from Ali at My Life My Love, Why I’ve Left Teaching. As a teacher I understood every point she made and I finished the article feeling jealous that she had found a way out of the profession. I love being in the classroom but the demands outside of it are increasing every year, to a point where it is unsustainable.
I am very aware that once O starts school I will be missing his assemblies, his nativity plays and his sports days as there is no way I will be able to get the time off. I won’t be walking him to school and I won’t be there waiting for at the end of the day. That’s not okay with me, and I feel it may be time to start exploring alternative careers. It’s something I’ve discussed with my husband before and he is fully supportive. It’s not something that’s going to happen overnight but I would like to be out of teaching (at least in my current role) my the time I hit 40. Five years and counting…
Watched
This week has been all about spending time with my little boy and I’ve done a lot of watching him play. As the weather has been so fab we have been spending a lot of time in the garden and we’ve had so much fun. Suddenly he seems so grown up (with the threenager attitude to match)
A few of my favourite pics from this week.
Wore
Nothing too exciting, to be honest I’m a little bit conscious that I have put a bit of extra weight on lately so I have got my trainers out and been for a run. I’ve actually signed up for a half marathon in September. I’m not a good long distance runner so the training starts now.
Heard
Why, Why, Why??? Yes, we have reached that phrase and it’s O’s favourite word.
O: This is skipper (the old one from Planes)
Me: Yes, he’s old
O: Why?
Me: Because he was born a long time ago
O: Why?
Me: (realising planes aren’t “born”) He was built a long time ago
O: Why?
Me: Because that’s when they built him
O: Why?
This generally continues until he gets distracted by something else, I’m going to have to brush up on my general knowledge.
Made
Last Friday we made Taming Twins Malteaster Bunny brownies. Oh my days, they are amazing. I was a bit worried I had undercooked them a bit too much at first but as they cooled down it made for a deliciously soft and gooey centre. They’re actually a bit addictive as all I can think about is when I can make my next batch.
And Lastly…
On Saturday I made a last minute decision to take O for an Easter Egg hunt at a local conservation area. I usually avoid this sort of thing because I don’t like visiting places when they are too busy but we had such a lovely time and O really enjoyed it.
Tomorrow we are off to Wales for a few days for our first caravan visit of the summer. I can’t wait to be by the sea and to have some family time.
Have a great week, and see you next Friday.
that brownie looks immense!!! x

Good luck on marathon training, I’d love to do one but I’m not sure if it’s a step too far. I start to get a really sore back if I go too far! x
Oh, the ‘why’ stage! I was surprised by the amount of things we’re asked to go along to when Boo started school this year. I spend a fair bit of time there! I hope you find an alternative career that’s right for you when the time comes x

OH MY WORD! Those brownies!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!
Regarding teaching- would you consider supply? I do pre arranged supply and it is amazing. I left teaching for the same reasons as you describe (and read that post too) and it was the best thing I ever did. This year I started supply. I cover ppa and course days etc so I get plenty of notification. As the girls get older I think I will agree to do the last minute days but it is so good- has brought the joy back into teaching again. xx
