In some ways it feels like it has been June forever, and in others like it has passed by in a flash. June is always a bit of a crazy month for us, I always forget how busy I am work wise as I think I should be winding down for summer now that the Year 11 and 13’s have gone but it’s the end of year exam/report writing season so school is busier than ever.
Throw in my husbands birthday, who always manages to plan a weeks worth of events to celebrate and life has been a bit hectic, but in a good way. Here’s what we’ve been loving…
With our summer holiday just over three weeks away thoughts are turning to what to pack, travel in, what O needs to get and I’ve been treating the pair of us to a few new bits and pieces.
These Fat Face trousers popped up in my email inbox and after reading the reviews (and having a quick as of the lovely people on Instagram) I was sold and headed straight off to buy them the next day. Obviously I took my fashion adviser with me (O) and he gave them the thumbs up.
They are a really flattering shape and so light and comfortable, perfect for a five hour flight. (Obviously I needed a new pair of shoes to go with them, and these were a bargain in the Clarks sale and perfect for summer).
For a few years I haven’t bought any shoes for summer, making do with the ones I already had but I have been on the look out for a pair of summer heels for what feels like forever and I completely fell in love with these, plus they go with everything.
Since getting back from Spain in May we have been making a big effort to get out more as a family. Sometimes when you’re busy (and especially when it’s cold and miserable) it can be too tempting to stay at home or at least not venture too far from it. With the start of the warmer weather we have been out and about a lot more than we would be normally and we’ve all been loving it.
We had promised O a trip bowling whilst we were away but as it only opened in the evenings it was a bit too late to take him. On a rainy Saturday afternoon, it was the perfect opportunity to introduce O to the bowling alley.
Embarassingly, he beat us both in our second game!
We has lovely Fathers Day dinner at Nutters restaurant in Rochdale. A little bit of a drive for us but well worth it.
And last weekend was my favourite trip out of the month. Back in January I organised to hire a beach hut for the day to celebrate my husbands birthday and invited his two best friends to come along to. I’ve been nervously watching the weather report for the two weeks running up to it, but we were lucky to have an absolutely gorgeous day and it was so much fun watching the kids play on the beach whilst we tucked into the Pimms.
June has been the month of trying to get myself a little bit healthier. With an investment in Deliciously Ella’s recipe book I’ve spent my Sunday afternoons in the kitchen batch cooking snacks for the week ahead. As a lot of what I’ve been making is naturally sweet and has raw cacao powder in I haven’t felt the need to reach for a chocolate bar.
I’ve tried to make a big effort to have breakfast as I know I’m guilty of skipping it and then reaching for the delicious white bread, buttery toast at work at break time. It only takes a few minutes to rustle up a smoothie which I then take to drink on my way into work.
But, of course, you can’t be good all the time.
Oh, my poor neglected little house. With working, and trying to be out more the house has felt the effects. It desperately needs a huge spring clean, and as we eventually got round to moving the furniture from the study to the garden office we now have a room that is completely full of junk.
To compensate for the lack of TLC I have bought the house a few little pieces from a local street market for when everything is back in order.
And that was June. July is looking like it’s going to be a great month, kicking off with out local carnival on Saturday and a week away somewhere hot to look forward to. Hope you have a lovely month.
I’m making a bit of a head start on the lovely Emma at Life At The Little Woods new linky. It doesn’t officically start until August but it doesn’t hurt to focus on the lovely things now, does it?
