A couple of weeks ago I wrote up a little tour of our forever home before we moved in and before we had started work on it, if you missed it you can catch it up here. It’s only fair that I let you have a nosey what it looks like now.
Buying and renovating a house at the same time as planning and paying for a wedding was, in hindsight, absolute madness. It was one of the most stressful times of our lives and cleared out all of our savings but it was the right decision for us and we have never regretted it for a minute.
I’m going to start with one of my favourite rooms in the house, the kitchen. The old one was really narrow but we moved the worktops around to create more space in the middle of the room and it was amazing how much bigger the room became.
I love the cream units and oak worktops, especially as the older they get the more character they have (although I still haven’t quite forgiven my husband for the circular scorch mark that is a result of him putting a burnt pan on the wood).
Our previous house was a mid-row townhouse and the kitchen sink overlooked a wall. Remembering that makes the view from the kitchen even more special.
O often picks me flowers from the garden and it’s so lovely to be able to have them on the windowsill to cheer me up when it’s washing up time.
Two items that were top of my kitchen wish list were firstly a range cooker…
…and secondly, an American style fridge freezer with an ice dispenser (living the dream!)
My husband is a bit of a gadget geek and this one was for him, a hidden TV screen in the kitchen cupboard door. It doubles up as a mirror when the TV is switched off.
As we bought the house just before heading off to John Lewis to create our wedding gift list a lot of the items inside are wedding gifts and I love that there is a little memory of who gave it us attached to so many things in the house.
Over time we have added our own little bits and bobs and I try to buy things that make me smile when I look at them or use them.
The downstairs of our house is mostly open plan but the entrance to the kitchen is marked by our little breakfast bar. It was a last minute decision and one that was all my husbands idea, and I am so glad he thought of it. We use it almost every day, even if it’s just sitting having a chat over a cup of tea.
I was a bit unsure about the double pendant lights at first but I love them now, although they are a nightmare to clean (and to replace if you break one, or two!!)
And before we finish the kitchen tour I couldn’t not mention one of my favourite features of the room, the doors to leave it. I love these double doors that lead you to the inner hallway and the stairs. We always leave them open but they make me happy.
I love hearing all about people’s houses and your kitchen is beautiful – I haven’t seen your ‘before’ post so will be looking at that in a bit 🙂 Your kitchen style is just how I’d like mine with cream units and wooden worktops. It looks so lovely and homely x

Jo, it’s absolutely stunning. The perfect space! I adore the pendant lighting. I’ve just shown my husband the TV … he’s insanely jealous. We went to a hotel where there was one in the bathroom cabinet mirror and it was hard to get him out of there 🙂
