10 Signs It’s Almost The End Of Term

IMG_4067.JPG

It’s Monday morning of the last week of school before the summer holidays.  It’s been a long time coming but the end is in sight, but you still need to get through the next 5 days, and you’re bound to experience a few of these:

1.  It’s pot luck who will actually turn up to your lessons.  With end of year trips, summer fetes and a few pupils jetting off for an early summer holiday the numbers start to dwindle.

2.  You will hear “Miss, are we having a fun lesson today?” at the start of every hour.

3.  And your pupils will roll their eyes when you tell them, “but every lesson is a fun lesson”.

4.  And they will look at you as if you are Cruella De Ville with your eye on their Dalmation when you tell them you are actually doing “proper” work (apparently Trigonometry does not class as a fun lesson).

5.  Your photocopying budget goes out the window as you stock up on word searches and colouring in puzzles.

6.  Your seriously regret not becoming an English teacher and having a legitimate excuse to show DVD’s.

7.  You start to become a bit nostalgic about that class that has driven you mad for the past year, they weren’t really all that bad, were they?

8.  You know you should start sorting out your classroom for September but you have no motivation so promise yourself you will come in over the holidays and do it once you’ve had a little break (Do it now, you know you won’t come in during the holidays!)

9.  Your school bag is full of Haribo and chocolate.  It’s amazing how much more enthusiastic a class can be if there’s the promise of a mini bag of Cola Bottles at the end.

10. You have a mental list of everything you want to achieve over summer (get fit, de-clutter your house, eventually take up Pilates), but before you know it September has come around and the list is largely untouched. Oh well, there’s only 7 weeks until October half term.

However hard that last week may be, when it feels Friday is never going to arrive, that feeling when you walk out of school (once the 3 hours of leaving speeches are over) makes it all worth it.

Happy Holidays!

And then the fun began...

Charlie keeps telling me that they will be doing nothing this week – I do remember the buzz around the last week of school and how I was so excited I could pop!!

This brings back so many memories (from the point of view of a pupil not a teacher). It would be so weird for me to have this whole cyclical thing going on in my work life – I guess it’s all happening again now as a mother of a school age child! Thanks for linking up Jo! #thetruthabout

Ah I bet you’re a FAB teacher and your pupils love you really. I’m never brave enough to take my lot out for an early holiday. Actually my eldest is still doing proper lessons too whereas primary school gave up weeks ago!

A great post and very interesting to hear it from the teacher’s perspective. I bet you can’t wait for the last day. One teacher mum I know goes to France for three weeks every summer which I guess is the bonus of having the long summer holiday. She works extremely hard the rest of the time though as I’m sure you do. I hope you have a FAB summer and get to achieve the things you want…just make sure to have some fun too 🙂 xx
