My Blogging Goals for 2017

I’ve always shied away from writing down what my blogging goals are.  Partly because I didn’t really focus on what those goals would be and partly out of fear of putting myself out there.  I was afraid of writing them down and then failing miserably at them.  Somewhere inside is still that insecure, self-conscious teenager who worries too much what people think of her.  With a new year I feel like it’s time for a new me and that it is time to put myself out there a little bit more, focus on what I want and get off the couch and make it happen.

So here are my goals and what I would like to achieve with my blog over the next 12 months:

  1.  Set myself a writing schedule and stick to it – I’ve been blogging three and a half years and for the past twelve months have dipped pretty much in and out of it.  I’m a thought pops into my head, write and press publish kind of blogger.  And that’s fine but it means that some weeks I’ll post several times and then nothing for the next couple.  I would like to schedule more so that my posts are more regular.
  2. Be more social – When I first started I spent a lot more time on social media and more time commenting on other posts and joining linkies and that has tailed off and I miss the interaction.  Hopefully now that G sleeps through the night and generally goes to bed at around 7:30ish I’ll have more time in the evenings to do this.
  3. Improve my photography – Truth to be told, I’m a bit lazy.  I quite often snap photos which I know aren’t great because I can’t be bothered to go and get the big camera or move into better light.  When I do make that effort the pictures are so much nicer and reminds me that I need to make that effort more often.  I still have my Busy Girls Guide to Digital Photography on the shelf and I need to spend some time going back through it.
  4. Increase my Instagram followers – This is a big one for me, I love Instagram and it links into Goal 3 of improving my photos.  Please pop over and follow if you aren’t already.
  5. Take some time to get my head around Pinterest – I really don’t have a clue!
  6. Reply to comments – I know this doesn’t bother a lot of people but I think it’s lovely when bloggers reply to comments.  I understand that this isn’t always the time and often people don’t go back and read the replies but it is something I would like to do.
  7. A change in direction – I don’t really have a niche, I tend to write what pops into my head and there will still be a lot of that going on I’m sure, but I would like to include more fashion and home posts on the blog.  One of my personal targets for 2017 is to experiment a little more with style and I’d love to write about that on the blog.
  8. To increase earnings from my blog – When I return to work at the end of February I have reduced my hours to work three days a week (yay!).  I would love to be able to earn the equivalent of that one day a week that I would have made being at school from my blog.

A part of me still can’t believe that three and a bit years later I’m still writing this blog, I do have a habit of quitting things quite easily.  Despite falling frequently in and out of love with blogging it’s something I’m just not ready to give up yet and actually it’s something I would like to spend more time on this year.

I’m still a little nervous putting these goals out there and maybe I won’t achieve any of them.  Maybe I will, but I know it is up to me to make these things happen.

Have you set yourself any blogging goals for 2017?  I’d love to hear what they are! xx

These are fabulous goals. And so many of them are similar to my blogging goals for 2017. I am hoping to get a first proper camera and really improve my photography too. Good luck with your goals lovely. I hope that you hit them all. Hugs Lucy xxxx

Thanks Lucy, I love the pictures I get when I get my big camera out but am often too lazy to make the effort. That’s hopefully all going to change in 2017! xx

Really great goals and I wish you all the best with them! I try and do a writing plan and then somethings happens and im like “quick blog it”! I am trying to to do similar topics on the same day every week!?

Pinterest hmmmm… from what I can remember from the workshop at blogfest, she said its more visual so use good pics. Have boards relating to topics on your blog so people follow you for what you cover, and one board for your blog to pin posts to. No hashtags only very descriptive words for the pics you pin as people search words not hashtags. You can set up a business account and it will show you what people pin so you can tailor it to your followers!! OH and think ahead. People pin months in advance so get it out there before the events!!! Saying that im rubbish on Pinterest and just pin stuff I love not for my blog (yet) hahahaha xx

I like the idea of something similar each day of the week but I never end up sticking to it. I’m impressed with how much you remember about the Pinterest talk at Blog On! xx

Ooh I love posts like this and hello from a fellow quitter ( I can’t believe I’m still blogging after a year!)

I need to write some goals and they will be quite similar – Pinterest I seriously have no clue and think that I’m maybe just a little lazy when it comes to learning about it.

I too hate putting my goals out there, like there is someone out there waiting for me to fail!

    Good luck lovely xx

I’m so lazy and Pinterest just falls to the bottom of my list every time! I feel exactly the same way, as if someone is waiting for me to fail, so silly really.

I hop you and Alfie are doing well, he’s gorgeous. xx

I’m sure it would work for me if I actually stuck to it. This year I’m determined to be more organised and not put things off. xx

Great goals Jo! I too want to be more social again- I stopped being so social last year for a few reasons, but I really miss it and want to get that back. I loved when I first discovered blogging and got to know lots of bloggers, and I feel that hasn’t happened for a while now. I need to get ‘out there’ more so to speak! x

I know what you mean, I loved being part of the blogging community but seem to have stepped away from it a lot over the past 12 months and I do miss it. I’m really looking forward to seeing how your year goes with your new arrival, so exciting! xx

Brilliant goals and ditto to so many of the same ones running around my head!
Sometimes if your goals are out there, it really keeps you motivated to keep at it.
Wish you all the best with them and I look forward to reading your posts.

Aww don’t beat yourself up too much you have had a baby! I do like to respond to comments and only don’t when it clearly doesn’t need a response. Your goals are super and you must share more posts that make you smile whether that’s parenting, home or fashion. There’s a reader for everything. In terms of IG growth, try finding hashtags that suit you, interact with those on there x

Thanks for the tips KA, I’m trying to concentrate on things I like and that gives me more motivation to write. Although G has taken to waking up at 8pm for cuddles so my idea to spend the evenings on bloggy stuff isn’t going quite to plan. Just got him in bed so having a catch up! xx

I haven’t set any blogging goals yet but I’ve just wrote down a few things I want to focus on this year, it’s hard sometimes to really put yourself out there and get going with it. I think most of these goals could be mine, I would love to regularly post three times a week (always my aim) but I’m like you, I write and press publish and then it can be days before I even look at my blog again. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do this year Jo and definitely share more of what makes you happy no matter what anyone thinks, you know I love to see your style posts xx

I’m aiming for three times a week, ideally Monday, Wednesday and Friday but we’ll see how well I do with that (Wednesday tomorrow and no post written yet!) I’m hoping to do a few more style posts, more than anything to encourage me to have a good sort out of my wardrobe! xx
