Review: The Little Green Sheep Cot Mattress

Moving your baby into their own room is such a big step.  I put it off for as long as I possibly could with G.  I loved having him beside me in his Moses basket but at almost 6 months it was no longer a comfortable option for him.  Whilst he could just about fit it didn’t leave any space for him to wriggle around.  With a very heavy heart I started to think about how to make the transition to his nursery as easy as possible.

When the lovely people from The Little Green Sheep got in contact to ask if I would like to review one of their cotbed mattresses and protectors I couldn’t believe what perfect timing it was.  I had wanted a new mattress for G but (as with most things) my husband had argued that we really didn’t need one!

After looking on their website I chose the Twist Cot Bed Mattress.  One of the features that appealed to me was the dual sided aspect of it, meaning that the firm side could be used for your baby and then when your child gets a little older it can flipped over to the more supple, comfy side and used up to 5 years of age.

At £179 it isn’t a cheap option for a mattress but personally I think it’s worth investing in something that your child will be sleeping on for the next few years.  The Little Green Sheep Mattress is handmade with no harmful chemicals of toxins.  As soon as you open up the packaging it screams quality,  I don’t usually get so excited by a mattress but this is a beauty.

The sides are clearly labelled so you know which way up to put the mattress in the cot and it was so easy to set up.  Let’s be honest, putting a mattress in a cot bed isn’t the most difficult of tasks.

Along with the mattress we were also sent an organic cot bed mattress protector.  When spending quite a bit of money on a mattress it is well worth paying a little extra to have this too.  It is made from the most beautiful thick cotton and sits on top of the mattress.  My little boy is a huge dribbler (as most 7 month olds are) and I know his mattress is being kept lovely and dry with the protector.

Whilst the mattress is gorgeous and the protector does its job, let’s get down to the all important part.  How well does G sleep when he is using it?  I was so excited for trying him in it, but typically just before Christmas when he was ready to move into his own room he caught a cold and became so clingy I could barely put him down so he ended up in bed with me.  As soon as he was better we started the big move into his own room.

G loves being in his cot.  Something O never did was nap in his cot during the day, always on me, but G has a couple of hours each morning in his little bed.  He looks so comfy in there and he must be happy otherwise he’d wake up and want Mummy.  Night-time is still a bit of an issue, whilst he goes to bed at 7pm, he will wake at some point in the night and want to be with us.  This is obviously nothing to do with the mattress, just a little man who wants to be close.

I’ve been really impressed with the mattress, it feels a little special and I have a baby boy who is very happy snoozing on it and a happy (sleeping) baby makes for a happy Mummy.

The lovely people at The Little Green Sheep are offering 20% of all their mattress starting on Thursday 19th January and running until February 16th so if you like the look of this or any other of their mattresses this would be a great time to buy.

We are almost at the point of our little boy needing his own cot. He turned 16 weeks this week but he’s forever throwing his arms into the bars of his crib whilst asleep and startling himself awake. I’m not ready to part with him at night-time just yet though!
