The Summer Edition #LittleLoves

Well, the last full week of August came around pretty fast, didn’t it?  I think I’m slightly in denial that it marks the end of my summer holidays, although O is still off for another week and a half.  On Tuesday I will be starting my new job (totally terrified) but we have a lovely long weekend to enjoy first.

We have had such a lovely summer holiday I’ll be sorry that it’s over but I’m an Autumn girl and I am really excited for darker nights and cooler weather.  I can’t wait to get my boots, black tights and jumpers back out again.  I’m quite glad that Morgana decided to have one Little Loves at the end of the month as I’m not sure I could have kept us so here is the bumper summer edition of what we have been loving.

Read

I did have grand plans to do lots of reading over the summer but after finishing two books on holiday I haven’t picked a book up since.  My favourite of the two was definitely the thriller The Couple Next Door, I was hooked from the first page, and the twist at the end is just brilliant!

I also read My So-Called Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella which was a good holiday read if not a little predictable.

Watched

We have managed a couple of cinema trips, one to watch Despicable Me 3 with O, who loved it and we also managed a grown up visit and watched Detroit.  I really like films that are based on true events and the film was set following the race riots in Detroit in the 1960’s, focusing on the killing of three black teenagers in Algiers Motel.  It was quite harrowing to watch.

The series that had me and my husband gripped has been Ozark which I would highly recommend.  The only problem is we binge watched it and now I’m missing it.

Oh, and I have to mention The Handmaid’s Tale.  Despite already knowing the ending I was still waiting for a happy ending, silly I know.  Luckily though Tas (Not My Year Off) has informed me there is a second series coming and I can’t wait to see what they do with the story next.

Made

I’m trying not to giggle too much at this one as I haven’t made much.  I did make some Malteaser brownies (you can find the recipe here from Sarah at Taming Twins, they are amazing) to take into work on my last day and they seemed to go down a treat.

(I made these a couple of years ago and as it wasn’t Easter I swapped the bunnies for ordinary malteasers but you get the idea)

Wore

I’ll start off with a couple of my favourite holiday outfits for here.

I wore this on the first night and my husband could barely contain his laughter, he now calls it my flamenco dress.  Seriously, what do husbands know about fashion right??

This was a new purchase from Abercrombie and Fitch before we went.  I was convinced I was too old for A&F but I was really impressed with what I ordered.  This dress is so comfy, and it has pockets!

I also ordered this jumper at the same time as the dress and it is so soft and comfy, I love it for lazy days.

Heard

Mostly the boys chattering away non-stop.  O is a talker, always has been and G is starting to find a few words which he then says on repeat.  I’m going to miss them so much next week.

And that was a little snippet of our summer.  It hardly seems to justify the lovely time we have had but it does give a few of our highlights.  Every year the summer break never seems quite long enough but before I know it we will be in our new routine and, fingers crossed, it will be going smoothly.  Everytime I look at G my heart aches a little that I will be away from him for 5 days of the week but I know that he is being well looked after, either my grandparents or our fantastic nursery.

I hope you have all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to what September brings.

What a lovely summer! I LOVE that red dress, I nearly bought one like that and then chickened out – I so regret not getting it now!
