The One Room I’d Love To Change

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with our bedroom.  I love the space, the open brick wall and the floor to ceiling radiator.  I love the full length doors that open onto a little balcony that overlooks the garden, it was one of the many things that made us fall in love on first sight of this house.  I love that the sun streams through the window in the mornings or that we can sit in bed and watch the rain pouring down whilst we are lovely and cosy inside.

What I dislike about the room is all our own doing, I hate the decor.  I refer to it as the room of fifty shades of brown because it feels like it has every known shade of brown known to man and very little colour.  The wallpaper on one wall is brown, the bed frame and headboard is brown, the furniture by husband very shoddily built is brown, even the rug is brown.  Each item is a slightly different shade and it drives me potty.  It’s the one room that somehow always gets pushed down to the bottom of our priority list, and with the new baby on the way and a nursery to prepare it will be a little while longer before our bedroom gets the attention it deserves.

All the furniture we currently have came with us from our previous house, a new build three storey property.  As nice as it was we didn’t really fall in love with our second home, not like we did with the first and our current house.  It was a practical choice at the time, and I think the furniture we bought reflected that.

One item that we treated ourselves to was a new king size bed from Argos, with a leather effect headboard.  As lovely as I thought it was at the time, it is probably now one of the last things I would choose and I would love a new bed.  Ottoman beds are trending in the UK and I can see the reason why.  As well as looking stylish and comfortable, like those from Bedstar, the hidden storage area in the bed is great for keeping extra pillow and bedding out of sight.  I actually used to have a bed with hidden storage like this when I was a kid and it was the best place for playing hiding and seek, no one could ever find me!

It may be a little while until we get to create our perfect bedroom, we’re going to be pretty busy for the next year or two, it just gives me more time to plan what the finished room will look like.  A big comfy bed, furniture where the drawer handle doesn’t fall off if you pull too hard and not a hint of brown!
