I started to do a little tour of our home a couple of months ago when I gave you a little nosey around the kitchen. Due to being pregnant (and exhausted) I didn’t end up keeping up with the other rooms but hopefully, now I have a bit more energy, I’ll be able to finish what I started. The next room to let you have a sneaky peek at is what is generally referred to in our house as “my room”. Officially, it’s the dressing room and whilst my husband has his clothes in the wardrobe the rest of it is my domain.
It’s not perfect and there are a few things I want to change but I love that it’s somewhere in the house that I can make as girly as I want without too many moans from the men in my life.
I adore the Laura Ashley wallpaper on the big wall, it is so pretty. The rolls sat in a corner of the room for over 12 months before we eventually got a decorator in to put it up. The wall that it covers is about 9 feet tall and there was no way I was letting my husband have a go at putting that up. I dread to think what the end result would have been. The only downside to having the paper up is that now the curtains don’t really go with the room so I am on the lookout for a pale cream pair to match the furniture.
The window in here is north facing so it is naturally quite a dark room. The light furniture and walls help to keep the room relatively bright but I think some paler curtains will really help with that too.
One of my favourite pieces of furniture in the house is my chest of drawers. It was from the Cotswold Company but we managed to get a slight second on eBay for half the price. The small amount of damage is on the back of the unit which you can’t see anyway when it is pushed against the wall. I love the small drawers on the top row as they are the perfect size for filling with all my make-up and beauty products. I have a frightening amount of lotions and potions but then always end up using the same few things. My husband is allowed to keep his hair gel in one of the drawers, but that’s it!
I keep my most used products on the top for easy access and my favourite perfume.
On the other side of the drawers are two of my favourite pictures, one from our wedding and one that I bought as it reminded me of the canals of Venice, and where my husband proposed.
I try to fill the room with bits and pieces that will make me smile. There is no need to have a few baby things hanging on the wardrobe door but it makes me happy to see them.
A few of my favourite pictures of O and memories of a holidays and nights out, with some pretty postcards to cheer me up.
You can’t help but giggle when you see this first thing in a morning!
I am a bit of a hoarder and just can’t bear to throw away a pretty box. My wardrobe is filled with them, but on the practical side they are useful for storage. These are two of my favourites.
This is the one corner of the room I would like to change. I really like the stool but it mostly ends up being used as a dumping ground for when I’m being too lazy to hang my clothes up. Before finding out I was pregnant we were planning to change to spare room into a guest bedroom/writing space for me but as it now needs to be used as a nursery those plans have been scrapped. However, I do still like the idea of having a little writing space away from the rest of the house, somewhere to escape the never ending pile of toys that seem to have taken over and I think I could fit a little desk in quite nicely here.
I’ve been having a look around and have fallen in love with this little desk from Wayfair which I think will go perfectly with the rest of the room. I just need to work on persuading my husband that it is an essential purchase!
The downstairs of our house is mostly open plan which is lovely in lots of ways but it is nice to have a room where I can escape to and close the door if I want. Put a little desk in there and you might not see me for hours.
I love the chest of drawers, it’s so beautiful and I’m a bit addicted to storage boxes. You really can’t have too many. I may be due a trip soon!

That’s my thinking, you can never have too many boxes. My husband throws his out straight away and I can never understand why! x

It really is practical, I love that all my bits and bobs can be separated rather than lumped together in one big drawer. I’d never find anything! x

Such a lovely room. The brick wall is great and the chest of drawers is very pretty, especially against that wallpaper. I think you are right about the curtains. It was the first thing that struck me when I saw the first photo. Cream would be lovely.
As for the desk, your Wayfair choice is really nice. I have one that size in plain wood and with a drawer like that. I picked it up in a junk shop for €5. It needed sanding and waxing but is the perfect otherwise.

I keep looking in charity jobs and on ebay to see if I can spot a fixer-upper but haven’t come across anything yet. Five Euros is a huge bargain! x

That chest of drawers is gorgeous – I’ve a bit of a thing for a nice set of drawers. And boxes too, I’ve recently had a clear out encouraged by MOH and now of course I need a box and don’t have one… #homeetc

I love the Merchants chest Jo! I’m addicted to beauty products so it would be lovely to have lots of little drawer to store everything in. My dressing are is off our bedroom — I sometimes think I’d love to have a totally separate space — and I’d absolutely LOVE a proper grow up dressing table. Sadly, there’s no room, so I end up doing my make-up on the window ledge!! 😉 Thanks for linking up chickie 🙂 Much appreciated x #HomeEtc
