My aim was to post this on the first of the month but seeing as it fell on a Saturday and I wasn’t organised enough to have pre-written it I’m a couple of days late. Since O started school the weekends seem so precious and there isn’t much time for blog writing.
It’s been over a month now since I had my all clear from the doctor that I was fit and healthy and ready to start exercising since my c-section. My one goal for September was to sign myself up for Pure Gym and I’m pleased to say that I have done that and have been getting myself in there a couple of times a week. I have to say I’m really impressed. I thought that Pure Gyms would possible be a bit scruffy and run down (I know, you shouldn’t pre-judge) and my local one is lovely.
One huge advantage of it for me is the number of classes that are available during the day. We have both sets of grandparents only minutes away and they are falling over themselves to babysit George for a couple of hours so I can get to the gym almost whenever I want. It is easier for me to go when O is at school plus I like getting exercise over and done with in the morning then I’m free to enjoy the rest of the day. A number of classes are virtual, meaning that they are done with the class being projected onto the big screen, and one of these is Bodypump. I have done Bodypump for years and it is one of my favourite classes. I think if you didn’t know what you were doing it would be quite hard starting with a virtual trainer but I really like it. Plus those classes are usually really quiet (a couple of times I’m been the only one there) but I surprised myself by loving having the huge space to myself. You’re screened off so no one can see you and there’s something very relaxing about working out in a quiet, darkened room.
I’ve enjoyed the normal classes too and there is so much choice that it means I won’t get bored as I can really mix and match what exercise I’m doing. I much prefer to do a class because if I go to the gym on my own I generally faff around and don’t push myself that hard. As it’s an hour where I’m not with G I want to get the most out of it that I can.
I have been attending my Slimming World weigh in and over the month I have lost a grand total of 2 pounds! A bit disappointing but I have been taking my measurements too and have lost 3 inches over the month. I’m trying not to concentrate too hard on the figures because what I have noticed is that my clothes are starting to fit a lot better. Some of the clothes that I bought just after having G when I was desperate to be back in “normal” clothes are starting to fit me and I am a comfortable 10-12. Yes, my belly is still a bit flabby (it grew a person, I know it takes time) but I am slowly starting to tone up.
If I’m being honest I haven’t been that good at sticking to Slimming World this month. I’ve not kept track of my Syns, other than a rough estimate in my head, and it’s gone out the window at weekends. Every week I promise myself I will be better but it hasn’t actually happened yet. Oops!
So there we go, it’s been a bit of a mixed month. The exercise is going well and I’m really enjoying having that bit of me-time whilst I’m doing it. It helps to clear my mind and I come out much more motivated. Sticking to Slimming World could go a lot better although I have lost 6.5 pounds since starting in August. I’m hoping for my half a stone certificate on Thursday, fingers crossed!
October is going to be a tough month as we are away in Spain for a week but I want to try and not pig out too much. There is a restaurant where we are going that do the most gorgeous chocolate pancakes and I will be treating myself but I don’t need to have them every day. My goal for this month is to get that half a stone certificate and to try and exercise three times a week (holiday not included). I’ve been to the gym this morning so only two more times this week to go.
I’ll be updating again on the 1st November, pop back and see how I get on.
